Proprioceptive training is included as part of the rehabilitation program to retrain the brain and to increase dynamic stability to prevent chronic and recurrent symptoms. Proprioceptive training increases the body's awareness of where it is in space as well as enhancing stretch and position sensation. Many of the proprioceptive sensors are damaged during a ligamentous injury. It is important to increase body position awareness and increase speed of contraction to prevent chronic and recurrent injury. Proprioceptive training is usually provided using the Swiss ball.
